#Schizophrenia is a serious #mental illness affecting more than 21 million people worldwide. To raise #awareness, each year on 24th May, #WorldSchizophreniaDay is marked to help people #suffering from this mental #illness. The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about this illness and also #eradicate the #myths. Schizophrenia is a #psychiatric condition where certain #chemicals in certain areas of the #brain are out of #balance. If that happens there can be a lack of #coordination between #thoughts, #actions, and #emotions. The term ‘schizophrenia’ literally means “a #splitting of the mind” and was coined in 1910 by Swiss #psychiatrist Dr. Paul Eugen Bleuler. Schizophrenia starts in early adulthood or late adolescence, typically between the ages of 15 to 28. According to the World Health Organization (WHO),” Schizophrenia is characterised by #distortions in #thinking, #perception, emotions, #language, sense of self and #behaviour. Common experiences include #hallucinations (hearing voices or seeing things that are not there) and #delusions (fixed, false beliefs).Worldwide, schizophrenia is associated with considerable #disability and may affect #educational and #occupational #performance.” www.masterdoctorclinic.com

#British #obstetrician, #educator, and medical #writer whose high standards of #teaching and #medicalpractice took obstetrics from the hands of the #midwives and established it as an accepted branch of medicine. He built up a distinguished #clientèle (including members of the Royal Family) and made a #collection of #anatomical and #pathological #specimens related to his medical work. Hunter began public lectures on anatomy in 1746 and became a member of the corporation of surgeons in 1746. With the lack of training spaces in hospitals, the demand for private #anatomy schools increased rapidly. He became one of the most #successful anatomy teachers of his time. Everyone deserves a life of #dignity, and the day serves as a reminder that we cannot ignore such a promise. #ObstetricFistula is one of the most serious and tragic injuries that can occur during #childbirth. It is a hole between the #birthcanal and the #bladder or #rectum caused by prolonged, obstructed #labour without treatment. The condition typically leaves women #incontinent, and as a result they are often shunned by their communities. Sufferers often endure #depression, social #isolation and deepening poverty. Many women live with the condition for years – or even decades – because they cannot afford to obtain treatment. An estimated 2 million women in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, the Arab region, and Latin America and the Caribbean are living with this injury, and some 50,000 to 100,000 new cases develop each year. Yet #fistula is almost entirely #preventable. Its persistence is a sign that health systems are failing to meet #women’s essential needs. In its resolution A/RES/67/147, the #GeneralAssembly calls on the international community to use the International Day to significantly raise #awareness and intensify actions towards ending #obstetric fistula. www.masterdoctorclinic.com

The versatility of organoboranes as reagents in #reductions, #additions and #rearrangements provides new ways of linking #carbonatoms to each other. Applications of organoboranes now include the #manufacture of #agricultural and #pharmaceutical chemicals (such as the #antidepressant #Prozac). Albrecht Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst von Gräfe was a #German #Eye #surgeon, who is regarded as a #founder of #scientific #opthalmology. He was also an #authority in diseases of the #nerve and #brain. He diagnosed sudden #visual loss due to #retinal artery #embolism, optic #retinitis and was one of the first to treat #glaucoma successfully. He described a large number of new findings, among them stase #papillas in #braintumors, retardation of the #eyelid in Basedow's disease and introduced a new operation for #cataract - #iridictomy. In his short career (he died at age 42), von Gräfe performed more than 10,000 eye #operations, and was undoubtedly the most important #ophthalmologist of the 19th century. www.masterdoctorclinic.com
