#American #surgeon who came from a family of surgeons. He practiced with his father, Dr. William Worrell Mayo, and brother, Dr. Charles Mayo. They specialized in #surgery, #pioneering the concept of #grouppractice, and were renowned for adopting new techniques.

Based in Rochester, Minn., their practice subsequently developed into the #MayoClinic, which opened its own building in 1914.
