Through experiments with the #bacterium #Escherichia coli cultured in various media, it was possible to discover the effect of the medium on #enzyme production. Jacob and his team found that a regulator (#R-gene) produces a repressor substance that prevents an operator (#O-gene) from providing messenger #RNA, blocking production of protein.
