In his research, he was also the first to employ instruments of #precision and to apply quantitative #experimental research techniques in the practice of medicine.
His adaptation of the #pendulum to medical practice (to determine #PulseRate ) was probably inspired by his discussions with #Galileo on the latter's experiments with pendulums in 1602.
His most famous medical contribution was a balance used to study the #metabolic changes undergone by his experimental subjects, who included Galileo.
He published descriptions of a new type of #thermometer which may well have been inspired by Galileo's thermoscope.
