This is an annual event. The theme for this year's National Pharmacovigilance Week is "Pharmacovigilance: A step towards Patient Safety". Healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, pharmacist and others are the backbone of the healthcare system who contributes for patient safety. Hence, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission has decided to celebrate “National Pharmacovigilance Week” on the occasion of patient safety day which with an aim to reach out to healthcare professionals common masses about the importance of reporting adverse drug reaction. NCC-PvPI on behalf of the Union ministry of health & family welfare urged all the healthcare professionals, marketing authorization holders, professional bodies, academic institutions and other stakeholders to celebrate it by organizing activities like conferences, debates, poster-oral presentations, quiz contests, essay writing competitions etc. in the area of pharmacovigilance at their respective organizations.

Approximately 810 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, around 6700 newborns die every day, amounting to 47% of all under-5 deaths. Moreover, about 2 million babies are stillborn every year, with over 40% occurring during labour. Considering the significant burden of risks and harm women and newborns are exposed to due to unsafe care, compounded by the disruption of essential health services caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign is even more important this year. Fortunately, the majority of stillbirths and maternal and newborn deaths are avoidable through the provision of safe and quality care by skilled health professionals working in supportive environments. World Patient Safety Day was established in 2019 to enhance global understanding of patient safety, increase public engagement in the safety of health care and promote global actions to enhance patient safety and reduce patient harm.

Painful autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, rheumatic diseases cause the immune system to attack a person’s joints, muscles, bones, connective tissue, and organs. More than 50 million American adults have been diagnosed with one. To raise awareness about rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus, gout, and more than 100 forms of rheumatic diseases, the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and SimpleTasks.org initiated Rheumatic Disease Awareness Month (RDAM) in 2016. In September 2021 we observe the 6th annual RDAM. RDAM aims to help people better understand what rheumatic diseases are and how they impact the daily lives of people living with them. Additionally, ACR hopes RDAM will increase people's understanding of the symptoms, risk factors, treatment options, economic impact, and medical and personal challenges of living with rheumatic diseases.
