Beat Leprosy, End Stigma and Advocate for Mental Well-Being is the 2021 theme of the World Leprosy Day - PAHO/WHO.
World Leprosy Day is a celebration of the #leprosy #community and an #opportunity to raise public awareness of leprosy and #disease that many people believe to be #extinct, also known as Hansen’s disease.
Leprosy is #curable and yet many people affected by this disease don't know there is a cure, and are often isolated away from society. This is needs to change.
This particular day was actually chosen to commemorate the death of Indian leader, Gandhiji, who understood the importance of this disease. Leprosy is one of the oldest diseases recorded in the world. The disease targets the nervous system, especially the #nerves in the cooler parts of the human body which include the feet, hands and face.
