#LeelaMoolgaokar initiated voluntary blood #donation drives in Bombay (now Mumbai) from 1954 onwards. She was inspired by the blood need of her injured son.

Shabir Hussain Khan Milaap will not charge any fee on your donation to this fundraiser. #ShabirHussainKhan is India's biggest #blooddonor. Mr Khan lives in the conflict-racked area of Kashmir and has generously donated 174 pints of blood to those in need since 1980.

The first records of the voluntary #blooddonation initiative in India can be traced back to 1942, during the time of World War II when the first blood bank was established in #Kolkata, West Bengal.

Currently, India has 2,760 blood banks of which 1,131 blood banks are supported by NACO, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
