The monarch of Jain festivals, Paryushan Mahaparva symbolises the opportunity to seek forgiveness for one's mistakes. Paryushan Parv is celebrated for 8 days, each day signifying differently. This year, 2022, it will be celebrated from August 24 and will end on September 1.
Paryushan is an eight-day fasting period described as a purification process. Jains hope to seek forgiveness for their sins, try to forgive those who have wronged them and at the same time aim for higher spiritual goals. Fasting is a simple and proven way to cleanse one's body, including one's bad karma.
Micchami Dukkadam
The festival concludes with people greeting each other ‘Micchami Dukkadam’ which means, "may all the evil that has been done be fruitless." On the last day, which is known as Samvatsari, people greet family, friends and all others with this phrase, thus seeking forgiveness for any kind of hurt or harm caused intentionally or unintentionally. By saying this phrase, you are forgiving those who have done wrong to you and those to whom you have done wrong.
