The International Day of Commemoration (International Holocaust Remembrance Day) in Memory of the #Victims of the #Holocaust is a #global observance and not a public holiday. It also #commemorates when the Soviet troops liberated the #Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland on January 27, 1945. The Holocaust, or Shoah (Sho'ah, Shoa), is the term used to describe the deliberate murder and desecration of millions of people prior to and murder of over six million Jews during World War II in Germany and German occupied areas in Europe. #IDC #SovientTroops #ProtectTheFacts #IHD

Born 27 Jan 1903; died 2 May 1997 at age 94.

John Carew Eccles was an Australian #physiologist who shared, (with Alan Hodgkin and Andrew Huxley) the 1963 Nobel Prize for #Physiology or #Medicine for his discovery of the chemical means by which #impulses are communicated or repressed by nerve cells. He also showed how signals pass between #nerves and #muscles. A nerve cell that is switched on by receiving a signal passes a chemical on to the next cell in line. This chemical expands minute openings in cell membranes, allowing ions to flood inside, reversing the electrical charge of the cell. This activity is repeated along the chain of cells, permitting transmission of the original impulse through the body. #Eccles observed living cells in action by planting exceptionally tiny electrodes in them. #NerveCell #CellMembrane #LivingCell

There’s a #powerful movement among #women to reclaim the #nurturing and connectedness that comes with #breastfeeding. There is no denying that breast milk is, without contestation, the absolute best food available for a growing #newborn. It absolutely may not be the best choice for every parent, but it is undoubtedly the best choice for every baby. For the busy #mother who cannot accommodate a hungry baby due to other #responsibilities, the healthy of breastfeeding can still be brought to their #child through pumping breast milk. Breastfeeding makes it possible for women to #empower themselves by retaining their autonomy and ability to pursue their #careers while still providing #nutritious, immune system boosting breast milk to their babies. Breastfeeding is an #important experience every woman can share with their child, whether directly or by pumping for their baby. It doesn’t matter how the #milk gets there, from the tap or from the bottle, breast milk is what’s #best for baby. #BestFood #PumpingBreastMilk #ImmuneSystem

Opposite Day is a fun day where you can say the #opposite of what you mean! It’s a great #opportunity to make everyone #laugh by saying the opposite of what you would usually say. It also gives you the opportunity to be a little bit cheeky and say the things you have always wanted to say but never usually do. After all, you’re only saying it because it is Opposite Day, right? You can also do activities in the wrong order. For example, you could decide to have breakfast for dinner – pancakes anyone? You could even wear your clothes backward! It’s up to you how much you want to embrace the theme of this day. This kind of thing can open the mind to some incredibly diverse ways of #thinking, and it’s stimulating trying to keep up with everyone saying the opposite of what they actually mean. If you are a fan of Aprils Fools’ Day, you can’t possibly dislike Opposite Day. Opposite day requires #mental #dexterity, a quick wit, and the ability to pick words we may not use every day out of the #cobwebbed recesses of our brain. Not only that, but some of the things we may be overheard saying to our friends and #co-workers may be nothing short of outrageous! Be careful though, you want to make sure the people you’re talking to know its opposite day or you may wind up hurting someone’s feelings. It’s the best day of talking to the people close to you, having fun is the absolute most important.

He is a Swedish neuroscientist who shared (with Paul Greengard and Eric R. Kandel) the 2000 #NobelPrize in #Medicine or Physiology “for their discoveries concerning signal transduction in the #NervousSystem.” He made fundamental contributions to understanding of the #brain through his research on #SynapticTransmission—the method of communication between #neurons. He discovered the roles of #seratonin and #dopamine as chemical #neurotransmitters, thus adding a whole new mode of action to the existing knowledge of electrical neurotransmission (via action potentials). His work led to the development of #levodopa, te first drug to treat #Parkinson's disease symptons. #Carlsson also introduced the first selective re-uptake inhimitor, #zimelidine, which led to development of #Prozac and Zoloft for the treatment of #depression.
